History of Beads

I love the subtle dichroic look behind the jelly. There are also anemones, and silver spheres which represent all the other ethereal creatures that float with the jelly.

These beads are made to look like Mammoth ivory with fossils embedded in them. They have fine silver spheres on the surface, and are fused with silver in the flame.

These are CHARACTER BEADS, and here are a few Mother Natures. They have vines and roses all around their heads.

Mother Nature beads are large and measure under 2". Enamels and hand-pulled stringer are used to make her loveliness!

I love these dotted beads! I learned the technique from Larry Scott, but have changed these

somewhat.

These FACES are large beads, measuring around 1 1/2 to 2 inches long. Some have

enamels, and all are painted with glass stringers and hand-pulled cane.

Glitterstone series - with lots of silver covering the surface of the bead and

subtle shades of pinks, browns, blues and ivories beneath the 'glitter'.

I am in love with these Jellyfish beads! They are large, averaging around 1 1/4" in diameter.    These are lovely focal beads, and look wonderful capped, or just hanging on a silver chain.

Jellyfish beads are made with layers of Moretti and dichroic glass and then fine silver

spheres are added before I begin work on the jellyfish. Each is then encased with another layer

of glass, which adds so much dimension to the jelly tentacles and body.

I am very partial to these blue and red beads with the reduced glass dots that turn very silvery. Thanks to Larry Scott for teaching that technique!

These tiger beads are lined with sterling. The beads are large, around 7/8" wide 1 1/4" in diameter. The hole here is around 3/8" or 10mm in diameter.

These floral beads are encased in clear glass or left on the surface of glass.

Want a bead with sterling caps? These are lined with sterling, and then the caps are drilled, and shaped to fit the bead. The tubing end-piece is then hammered over and....Ta Dah... a silver-capped bead! The one above shows a fibula fashioned with the capped bead.

All my jewelry is made from my own lampworked beads. To learn more about the process and see some 'action' photos, go to the Studio page.

Some bracelets have heavy elastic stretch-bands, some are simple wire with toggles, and some are more intricate with hand-fabricated silver work. I also like to use found objects, charms and silver beads in my designs.  All my pieces are one-of-a-kind.

I call the bracelets with many different beads, STORYBEADS. Scroll down to learn about STORYBEADS.

Storybeads

We are surrounded by stories – movies, plays, books, magazines. True stories and fiction. We love hearing them and we love telling them.

Our experiences are our stories and we have powerful stories in our lives. Stories of joys and sorrows, lessons learned, and lesson yet to be learned.  Each story offers illumination and we mustn’t lose the chance to learn about ourselves.

Have each bead represent one of your stories. Let the designs of mazes, spirals, dots and eyes call for the specific story you have to tell.

My friend, Tricia Webster, creates programs that act as catalysts for individual and organizational transformation. Tricia has created a unique workshop using Storybeads, where participants learn how to recapture the power of the present and do deep work on bringing their creative passion and purpose into their daily lives.

"Now I can remind myself of my stories, of lessons learned, and of the wisdom and joys I’ve already experienced. I carry them on my wrist!” ---- Tricia Kochevar, a Story Bead wearer

Below are a variety of Storybead bracelet designs. These have all been sold, but I can make something similar that better suits your personality and color preferences!
